Welcome to the Education Standards Institute
Education Standards Institute is a Melbourne-based education think-tank established by Dr Kevin Donnelly in 2008. ESI favours an education system based on standards, equity, diversity and choice and the values and institutions that promote liberty, democracy, an open and free society and a commitment to Christian beliefs and values. In relation to the purpose of education, while practical and utilitarian ends are important, ESI is committed to a liberal view of education, one based on truth, rationality, civility, morality and humility. Objectives include:
Much of the Australian Labor Government's education revolution implemented since 2007, while embracing the rhetoric of high standards, diversity and choice, is highly centralised, statist and in danger of denying schools the freedom and autonomy needed to raise standards and best reflect the needs of their communities. See a Quadrant article in which I detail the flaws and weaknesses in the Commonwealth Government's education revolution. In a second Quadrant article, I argue why Catholic and independent schools must be properly funded by government and why the review of school funding planned for 2010/2011 is in danger of being taken over by those opposed to non-government schools. See a third Quadrant article for an update on the Gonski school funding review in which I argue previously stated concerns are justified. ESI is a trading name for Impetus Consultants Pty Ltd, ABN 73 737 609 643. |
